Stations of the Cross

I have only been to "living" Stations of the Cross. What is a Stations of the Cross service usually like?

There is a prayer at each station. I guess you can add hymns and such. I have to admit that I don't go very often.

So, a normal one is usually about 20-45 minutes, depending on which version they are using…What happens is usually someone holding the Crucifix goes to each station whist the priest or someone else leads the reflections on each station, or everyone walks to each station during the reflections. The leader reads part of the reflection and everyone reads part of the reflection for each station. The reflection can include scripture or stuff based on scripture. There is no one set reflection, rather there are various reflections written by different people through the years…some I like a lot, some are just ok…but that’s just a personal preference thing. Some non-Catholics might object to one or two of the stations cause they aren’t directly written in scripture, but more of a reflection thing on what the whole walk of the cross could have been for Christ……but most of the stations are directly written in the passion narratives. You’ll know what I mean when you look at them.

Here are a couple more links to different versions of the stations. The last one is from Pope John Paul II and I’ve heard is more based on scripture only rather than taking a bit of creative license.
